Locksmith Tip: Basically, rekeying a lock is the process of modifying an existing lock to work with a new key. Compared to lock replacement, rekeying is much less invasive as it can be done without removing the lock from its location. By doing this process, the internal mechanism of the lock is transformed into a new configuration. Then, it creates a completely different lock that corresponds to a new key. In other words, it alters the existing lock’s internal pins to create a new pattern.
